Stories can survive only if they are shared. Storytellers, bring stories to life they make us laugh, make us cry, make us think, and take us on journeys we never dreamt we'd go on, to places we never envisioned we could visit. With a different theme each month a constantly changing group of storytellers are drawn together to share their individual life experiences. Come listen, enjoy, share and let your mind be transported. You can experience WSS on Saturday day.
Poetry Out Loud, a nation-wide program for high school students, strives to revive the age-old practice of poetry contests, (part of the ancient Olympics), while harnessing some recent energy around poetry slams. But unlike slams, it asks that students choose one or two from an established anthology of about 700 great poems, and then memorize them. Our county has the largest number of students and schools participating in the state. See them on Saturday day.
The first eight attendees to sign up for The Write Spot author readings will receive the recently published The Write Spot Anthology: Discoveries, a unique interactive book revealing techniques Marlene Cullen uses in her Jumpstart Writing Workshops to ignite imagination. Whether you want to write fiction, memoir, non-fiction, or poetry, or if you are experiencing writers block, Discoveries will inspire your writing and open doors for self-discovery.
It’s time for the greatest show on earth, no wait it’s the most dangerous game…or is it the biggest looser. OK you got me, those are all lies, come listen to some real tall tales, from some really short tellers (another lie) this part is true-this is your chance to drop your name in the hat and tell a whopper. This Liars Contest is sponsored by The Storytelling Association of California and that’s the whole truth. Put your name in the hat on Saturday day.
From Santa Rosa, Do Tell Story Swap a monthly gathering for teens and adults all are welcome to share stories. There’s no judges, no competition, no worries… just inclusive, entertaining fun! the Swap has brought together librarians, teachers, engineers, creative and free spirits for stories about myth, fantasy, love and loss. Personal stories of family, childhood, elder wisdom and humor are also a big part of the Swap stories. You can enjoy DTSS on Saturday day.
